Bob Akers

Mandolin, Dobro, Slide and Acoustic Guitars

Kansas City native, Bob Akers,  began his musical journey as a 5 year old piano student. Following 2 years of lessons with the church musical director, Bob moved on to the Kansas City Conservatory of Music. He added guitar at age 10 and played in his first band at 12.

Middle school, high school and college years included a number of bands and an interest in adding styles and other stringed instruments to his musical vocabulary. Prior to moving to Seattle, Bob played with a number of bands as well as smaller acoustic projects with some of Kansas City’s best musicians. His usual role was lead guitar, but that expanded to include slide guitar and mandolin as well as some occasional bass.

In Seattle, Bob played mostly acoustic duo material and spent a lot of time recording and practicing. Upon returning to Kansas City he picked up playing in projects with old friends and spending time in the practice studio working on skills.

Bob’s influences run from Muddy Waters, to Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, on to Sonny Landreth and Celtic music. Recently a lot of angry, moody Celtic punk has been playing in his studio. He has been writing and recording with his son-in-law, Ben Minahan and friend, Richard Streeter.

Bob is proud to play with a group of fine musicians. He hopes to add whatever the songs ask for.
